Homage to Homage to the Square

Presenting a series of grid paintings by composer and visual artist Peter Whitehead. The artist says about this series: "Painting squares on a flat two dimensional surface relates to playing music. Music exists in time and so can be written left to right in measures. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. You can divide the rhythm into odd time or even time. 4/4, 3/4, 7/8 etc . Something happens in each measure : Up or down, louder, softer, silence, color, inflection, choice of instrument. Similarly, each painted square contributes different information to an overall two dimensional composition. Painting is visible & physical. Music however remains invisible, but three dimensional."
